Langtang Valley Trek in November

20 Apr 2026 13 min to read

November is the quiet trail of Langtang valley trekking. The monsoon is fully gone. Skies are the clearest they will be all year. October crowds have thinned. And unlike the spring season, you get golden autumn forest on the lower trail combined with fresh snow on the peaks above. For most foreign trekkers, November hits the right balance between accessible weather and genuine mountain solitude.

This guide covers everything specific to Langtang Valley Trek in November.

Why November Beats October for the Best Langtang Valley Trek Experience

Most travel blogs tell you October is the best month for Nepal trekking. And for Everest or Annapurna, that argument holds. But Langtang is a different trail. It is already quieter than those two regions. In October, even Langtang starts to feel crowded. Teahouses at Kyanjin Gompa fill up by 3 PM. The sunrise approach to Tserko Ri has groups leaving at 3 AM competing for the same viewpoint.

November changes that completely.

The weather in early November is practically the same as October. Dry trails. Clear sky. No rain. The difference is you will often have long stretches of the route to yourself. Teahouses have room. You do not need to book weeks ahead for mid-November onward.

There is one more thing that nobody writes about. November is the only month where the golden oak and maple forest on the lower trail exists at the same time as fresh snow on the high peaks. Spring gives you green forest and less snow contrast. October gives you dry forest with some colour. November gives you the full amber and copper canopy between Syabrubesi and Ghoda Tabela, and white peaks above it. That combination is unique to this month.

Langtang Trekking November Weather: Early vs Late Month Breakdown

The most important planning decision for a November Langtang trek is whether you go in the first half or second half of the month. These two windows feel noticeably different.

What November Morning at Kyanjin Gompa Actually Feels Like

You wake up at 5:30 AM to prepare for the Kyanjin Ri summit. The dining room stove is cold. The teahouse owner is lighting it now. In early November the temperature inside is around 2°C to 4°C. You put on every layer before leaving the room. The trail outside is hard and dry. The sky is ink-black with stars. Langtang Lirung’s outline is visible as a dark mass against the stars above you. By the time you reach the Kyanjin Ri summit, the sun is hitting the glacier face and turning it gold. The wind picks up at the exposed ridge but it is manageable. This is early November.

Late November is harder. Pipes freeze overnight. You cannot always get running water for morning tea. The teahouse owner brings hot water in a kettle. The air is dry enough to crack your lips in one day if you forget lip balm. The sunrise is worth it but you need to be ready for minus 10°C or lower before the sun rises.

Langtang Valley Trek Route Outline for November

Our Langtang Valley Trek will takes 7 days from Kathmandu – Kathmandu.

  • Day 01: Arrive at Kathmandu, 1,300m via respective Airlines.
  • Day 02: Drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi 1,450m. approx 7-8 hours.
  • Day 03: Trek to Lama Hotel, 2465m. 5-6 hours.
  • Day 04: Trek to Langtang Valley 3400m. 5 hours walk.
  • Day 05: Trek to Kyanjing Gompa 3800m. 3 hours walk.
  • Day 06: Trek back to Lama Hotel 2, 465m. 6-7 hours walk.
  • Day 07: Trek back to Syabrubesi 1450m
  • Day 08: Drive to kathmandu from Syabru besi
  • Day 09: Departure for international flight.

The Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel section runs through dense bamboo, oak, and rhododendron forest. In November this lower forest is fully golden. River levels are at their yearly low. Suspension bridges are not stressed by monsoon flow. Trail is dusty, not muddy.

The Lama Hotel to Langtang Village section is where the valley opens and peaks come into view. You pass through Ghoda Tabela, where the first clear views of Langtang Lirung (7,227m) appear. Langtang Village itself was completely destroyed in the 2015 earthquake when a seismic avalanche buried it. The rebuilt village carries that history visibly.

The Langtang Village to Kyanjin Gompa section is short but meaningful. Ancient mani walls, chortens, and a water-powered prayer wheel line the trail. By late November this wheel may be frozen solid. The yak cheese factory at Kyanjin is worth a full stop. It was originally set up with Swiss assistance. The cheese is made from nak milk (female yak) and the animals graze on high altitude herbs. The result is dense, salty, and protein-rich. Buy a block. It is the best trail snack you will have on this trek.

The summit options from Kyanjin are the most November-specific days. Both Kyanjin Ri and Tserko Ri require early departures. Afternoon winds on the exposed ridgelines in November are serious. Leave by 6:00 AM for Kyanjin Ri and by 5:30 AM for Tserko Ri.

What You See From Kyanjin Gompa in November

November has the clearest atmospheric visibility of any trekking month. Spring is excellent but afternoon clouds build regularly and residual post-winter humidity creates some softening of distant views. November has neither. The monsoon has washed dust and moisture from the atmosphere. The result is a dry, cold, crystal-clear sky that stays consistent all day, not just in the morning.

From Tserko Ri (4,984m) on a clear November day, you can view these mountain:

PeakAltitudeLocation
Langtang Lirung7,227mRight above you
Dorje Lakpa6,966mEast
Gangchempo6,387mSoutheast
Yala Peak5,520mEast
Ganesh Himal7,422mSouthwest
Shishapangma8,027mTibet, across the border

Shishapangma is the only 8,000m peak located entirely within Tibet, and it becomes visible from Tserko Ri specifically because of November’s haze-free air. This is not possible on cloudy spring days or in the hazy October transition. It is a November-specific view that almost no trekking article highlights.

A 2023 trekker survey across Langtang autumn visitors found 78 percent rated November visibility as excellent, compared to 61 percent for September.

From Kyanjin Ri (4,773m), the shorter and more accessible summit option, Langtang Lirung fills your entire left horizon. In November, sunrise hits the glacier face before it reaches the valley floor. You watch the mountain turn from dark rock to gold to white over about 20 minutes. On the descent back to Kyanjin, you can see the full length of the Langtang Valley below you stretched out in autumn colour.

Langtang Trek Cost and Permits in November 2026 and 2027

Important regulation update: Nepal Tourism Board now requires all foreign trekkers in Langtang National Park to be accompanied by a licensed guide. This is not a recommendation. It is a requirement. Independent trekking without a registered guide is no longer permitted in this park. Our team handles both permits and guide arrangement for every package.

  • Budget (independent trekker, own guide arranged):
  • Permits + guide + meals + accommodation = USD 400 to USD 700 total
  • Mid-range guided package (Nepal Holiday Trip):
  • Full 8-day package with transport, guide, porter, permits, meals = USD 700 to USD 1,200
  • Daily teahouse costs on trail:
  • Room: NPR 500 to 800 per night (rises with altitude)
  • Meals: NPR 400 to 700 per meal (dal bhat is best value + free refills)
  • Hot shower: NPR 300 to 500 extra
  • Device charging: NPR 200 to 300 per device
  • Wi-Fi: NPR 200 to 500 (satellite-based, slower in bad weather)

ATM Availability: There are no ATMs after Syabrubesi. The Syabrubesi ATM exists but fails regularly due to power cuts. Withdraw enough cash in Kathmandu for your full trek plus emergency buffer.

In November, NTC (Nepal Telecom) has better coverage than Ncell across most of the trail. Signal becomes very weak or disappears completely at Kyanjin Gompa. Download offline maps before you leave Kathmandu.

What most people forget for November specifically:

Wet wipes: In late November, teahouse plumbing at Kyanjin Gompa freezes overnight. Running water for morning wash is not guaranteed. Wet wipes solve this immediately.

A thermos or insulated bottle. Cold air suppresses your thirst sensation. You will not feel like drinking water at -8°C but your body is losing moisture fast in the dry mountain air. Carrying hot tea in a thermos means you will actually drink it.

Tihar Festival: Tihar is Celebrated at Langtang Trail

If you are booking a November 1 to 15 departure, there is a cultural bonus most trekking guides skip.

Tihar, Nepal’s Festival of Lights, falls in late October to early November on the lunar calendar. In 2026 it runs November 6 to 11. During this period, teahouses in Tamang villages along the lower trail are decorated with small oil lamps on windowsills and doorsteps. Marigold garlands hang at entrances. On Kukur Tihar day, dogs around the villages wear flower garlands. The lower villages feel warm and festive in a way that is not present in any other trekking season.

This does not slow the trek or affect the route. But for a first-time visitor to Nepal, passing through Tamang villages during Tihar on your way to the high valley turns this trip into something that goes well beyond just trekking.

Extend Your November Trek: Gosaikunda, Tamang Heritage, and Langshisha

The Langtang Valley is a hub, not just a destination. If you have more than 8 days, these are the extension you can add with your langtang trek.

Gosaikunda Lake sits at 4,380m and is sacred to both Hindus and Buddhists. In late November the lake surface begins to freeze. The frozen lake against the surrounding peaks is one of the most striking images in the Himalayas. Our Langtang Gosaikunda Trek combines both destinations in 10 to 12 days.

Tamang Heritage Trek covers traditional Tamang villages in the lower Langtang region that the standard valley route does not reach. It runs at lower altitude, is more culturally focused, and pairs well as a warm-up before the main valley ascent.

Langshisha Kharka is a remote alpine meadow about 3 to 4 hours past Kyanjin Gompa. In November it is completely empty of trekkers. No teahouse, no group, no noise. Just the glacier, the meadow, and the peaks. It is a day extension from Kyanjin that almost nobody takes, and it is worth it specifically for the solitude November makes possible.

We build custom itineraries across the full Langtang Region for all durations. Talk to our team to get your November plan sorted before spots fill.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Langtang Valley Trek in November

Is November a good time for the Langtang Valley Trek for beginners?

Yes. The Langtang Valley Trek does not cross any high mountain pass. The highest sleeping altitude is Kyanjin Gompa at 3,870m, which most healthy adults can handle at a reasonable pace. The main challenge in November is cold nights, not technical trail difficulty. Come with a proper sleeping bag, dress in layers, and trek with a guide who can track your altitude response.

How cold does it get at Kyanjin Gompa in November?

Early November nights drop to around -5°C to -10°C. After November 20, expect -10°C to -15°C at night. Teahouse pipes can freeze before dawn. A sleeping bag rated to at least -10°C is the minimum for early November. Bring -15°C rated for the second half of the month.

Do teahouses stay open during November on the Langtang trek?

Most teahouses at Lama Hotel, Langtang Village, and Kyanjin Gompa operate through November. A small number at Kyanjin begin closing after November 20. Our team confirms which properties are open before your departure date, every time.

Can you see Tibet from the Langtang Valley in November?

Yes. From Tserko Ri on a clear November morning, Shishapangma (8,027m) is visible across the Tibetan border. This is the only 8,000m peak fully inside Tibet. November’s dry, haze-free air is what makes this possible. It is not reliably visible in other months.

Is a guide mandatory for the Langtang Valley Trek in November?

Yes. Nepal Tourism Board requires all foreign trekkers inside Langtang National Park to be accompanied by a licensed guide. This is a formal regulation, not optional advice. Our packages include a licensed local guide and we manage all permit paperwork.

November is not the most obvious choice but it is often the most rewarding one. The trail is quiet. The air is the clearest it gets. The yak cheese factory is running. Tihar decorations are still on village doorsteps in early November. And on a clear morning at Kyanjin Ri, you are watching Langtang Lirung turn gold with nobody else on the ridge.

Our team at Nepal Holiday Trip has been running Langtang treks for years. We know which teahouses stay open late in the season. We know the guides who have done this route in November cold dozens of times. And we build itineraries that do not rush your acclimatisation.
