Day 11 is the hardest and the best. You cross the Larkya La Pass. You start before sunrise, headtorch on, trail cold and firm underfoot. Season choice matters more in the Manaslu region than in most parts of Nepal. The area is remote and the trail infrastructure is thinner than on the main trekking routes.
September and October are the sweet spot. The monsoon has just ended. The sky is clear and the views of Manaslu are at their best all year.
Spring is also great. The rhododendron forests below 3,000m are in full bloom in April. The colour of the forests against the white peaks is something you will not see anywhere else.
If you can choose your dates, aim for October or late March to mid-April. These are the windows when conditions align perfectly.

Frequently Asked Questions About Manaslu Region Treks
What is the best time to do a Manaslu region trek?
Spring & Autumn month are favorable for trekking manaslu region. In Spring month( September, October, November), after the rains stop here the sky gets clear and you can see the mountains well. Spring also works nicely. March, April, May. The forests look beautiful in spring. If someone asks us which month is the best, we usually say October. Or late March also. Those two are the most popular for a reason.
Can I trek in the Manaslu region alone?
No. The government set rule for no solo trek. A guide has to be with you the whole time. But if you are alone, that is okay. We can still make it work. Some people come alone and we put them in a small group. Some people prefer a private guide just for them. Either way, we sort it out for you.
What is included in your Manaslu trek packages?
The permits are included. Guide and porter also included. You sleep in teahouses and food is covered, three meals every day on the trail. The jeep or transport to the trail start and back, that is included too. What you pay yourself: your flight to Nepal, your insurance, tips for the team, and anything personal you buy on the way. If you want the full list, just message us and we send it to you.
How fit do I need to be for a Manaslu region trek?
You have to be reasonably fit. Not like an athlete, but not unfit either. Every day you walk maybe 5 to 7 hours. Some parts of the trail go up steeply. The Larkya La Pass day is the tough one. That day is long and the air is thin up there. You do not need to know climbing but if you have never done a multi-day trek before, we recommend you to take 18 days trek instead of 14 days.
Do I need a special permit for the Manaslu region?
Yes, you need permits here. This area is government restricted. Three permits are required:
- Manaslu Special Trekking Permit: USD 100 per week in peak season
- Manaslu Conservation Area Permit: NPR 3,000
- Annapurna Conservation Area Permit: NPR 3,000 (only if you exit via Dharapani)
