Manaslu Tsum Valley Trek - 20 Days

On Arrival at Kathmandu Tribhuban International Airport, you will be received by our staff and will be escorted to the hotel. One of our office representatives will give you a brief orientation of the Hotel, Kathmandu sightseeing, and trekking information that you might need while in Nepal. Today is the first day of trekking to Tsum Valley and Manaslu Circuit Trek. It is a long road journey to Machha Khola, the starting point of hiking up to the Tsum Valley and Manaslu Circuit. The scenery may be captivating, but the road is bumpy and uncomfortable. Your guide will be with you, and he will arrange your trip from the beginning. If you plan to go by public bus, your guide will take you to the bus station from the hotel and begin your journey. We would like to suggest the private jeep, it is more comfortable and flexible, but it is cheaper and included in the budget, as you pay. Overnight at the local lodge in Machha Khola with BLD.

The trail from Machha-khola leads to more interesting farms, villages, and fields as the vegetation slowly changes, beginning our morning walk by crossing the stream that gives its name to Machha Khola (fish stream) and heading uphill to the tiny village of Kholabeshi and the Hot spring at Tatopani. From here, the valley sides become steeper until the path becomes impassable. The route then switches to the left bank of the river, which becomes calmer, meandering across a broad gravel bed. On reaching Lauri, we cross the river on a suspension bridge, then climb a high path, then descend into the open valley at a place known as Yara Khola. There are many good camping spots, depending upon the length of the walk and the condition of the trail. Our trek continues for another hour to the village of Jagat. Today, you will leave Jagat and walk through farms, forests, and tiny villages like Sirdibas and Philim, where you will see prayer flags fluttering and locals going about their day. The trail follows the Budhi Gandaki River, offering lovely views of green hills and winding valleys. Philim is a bigger village with a school and a great place to stop for Lunch. After lunch, the trail gets quieter and wilder. You will walk through a thick bamboo forest, cross some fun suspension bridges, and enjoy the sound of nature all around. Lokpa is a small and calm place, the perfect spot to rest and get ready for the next adventure. Overnight at Lokpa village in the teahouse lodge with BLD.

Early morning, after breakfast, you will leave the quiet village of Lokpa, and you will head deeper into the forest, where the trail feels wilder and more exciting. Your hike goes up and down through these trees, crosses a few narrow bridges, and passes the river rushing below. From here, the view slowly opens, showing cliffs, waterfalls, and the far snow peak of the Ganesh Himal. After a few hours of walking, you will see the pretty village of Chumling, which lies across a long suspension bridge. Once you cross it, you will find stone houses, friendly people, and stunning views of the mountains. Chumlingtar is your first real taste of Tsum Valley culture, with prayer flags, chortens, and even a small monastery around. This town is a peaceful place to rest and enjoy the beauty of the hidden Himalaya of Nepal. Overnight at Chumling in Teahouse Lodge with BLD.

The beautiful day begins here again; the walk from Chumling to Chhekampar is full of beauty and charm. You will pass through small, peaceful villages like Ripchet, where Local people live in stone houses and tend to their animals at fields. The trail winds through forests and crosses long wooden bridges over rushing rivers. You will see beautiful mani-walls and prayer flags fluttering in the breeze, reminding you that you are deep in a spiritual valley. As you keep climbing, snowy peaks like Ganesh Himal begin to peek through the clouds, making the journey feel magical and unforgettable.
After some hours of walking, you will arrive at Chhekampar, one of the biggest and most important villages in the Tsum valley, sitting at 3,010 meters above sea level. This village is made up of two name chokhang and Paro, where you will find wide open spaces, grazing yaks, and friendly faces. The village is surrounded by mountains and has peaceful feelings with teahouses where you can rest and enjoy the view of the Himalayas. This is a great place to learn more about Tibetan Buddhist culture, with monasteries and colorful prayer flags all around. Overnight at Chhekampar in the teahouse lodge with BLD.

As usual, the day begins after breakfast at the hotel in Chhekampar and heading onwards to Nile. On walking from the trail, you will see Mount Manaslu and many small towering peaks. You will walk across the easy trail to Shyala, passing through pine and rhododendron forest with moss and gin-clear stream. Overnight at Nile in a teahouse with BLD.

Today is a very special day of the Tsum Valley Trek, which is hiking up to Mu Gompa, the most important and highest Monastery lies at 3,700 meters above sea level. The trail climbs gently from the Nile with wide views of snow-covered peaks and stone chortens along the way. Mu Gompa sits proudly on a hill, surrounded by silence, sky, and mountains. The monastery is more than 100 years old, and it is home to monks who live and study in this peaceful place. Inside the gompa, you will see ancient statues, colourful paintings, and spinning prayer wheels. It feels like stepping into a sacred world. After enjoying the Mu Gompa, return to Nile and spend overnight at the teahouse, including your BLD.

It is time to begin the return journey. You will walk back the same way you came up and pass through the quiet villages of Pangdun, Phurbe, Lar, and Chhekampar. Along the way, you will see familiar chortens, Mani-walls, and grazing yaks. Similarly, new light and views make the landscape feel fresh again. The walk is mostly downhill, making it easier and faster. You will enjoy watching the valley slowly open back up. After 6/7 hours walking, you will reach the lovely village of Chumling, where the forests begin again, and the air feels warmer. Overnight at Chumling in the teahouse lodge and BLD.

Today’s walk takes you out from the Tsum Valley and back towards the main route to the Manaslu Circuit trail. You will retrace your steps past Lokpa, where the path winds through forests, over bridges, and along the river. From Lokpa, you descend steeply down to rejoin the Budhi-Gandako River, crossing more thrilling suspension bridges and climbing up and down rocky trails.
You will walk the forest, which is full of birds, butterflies, and sometimes even monkeys swinging through the trees. After several hours of walking, you will reach Deng (a small but friendly village) tucked between cliffs and riverbanks. Overnight at Deng in the teahouse lodge and BLD.

Today, the trail from Deng to Namrung takes you deeper into the mountains, with exciting climbs, peaceful forests, and beautiful river crossings. You will pass through small villages like Bihi, Ghap, and prok where the culture becomes more Tibetan and the mountain views get better with every step. The trail winds through tall pine and rhododendron forests, crosses wooden bridges, and follows the rushing Budhi Gandaki River as it flows through cliffs. After several hours walking, you will reach Namrung village at 2,630 meters. Namrung have Cozy teahouses, a small monastery, and carved prayer wheels along the path. Overnight at Namrung village.

From Namrung, the trail climbs gently through beautiful forests of pine and rhododendron, passing stone villages like Lihi, Sho, and Lho. You will see many mani walls, chortens, and Buddhist monasteries along the way. These all things show you the deep Tibetan culture of this region. As you walk further, the views of snowy peaks like Manaslu, Himalchuli, and Ganesh Himal become even more stunning. One of the highlights is the village of Lho, where you can visit the beautiful Ribun Monastery and see Manaslu rising behind it, a perfect photo time. More or less about 6 hours of hiking, you will reach Shyala and spend the night there at the Teahouse lodge.

Today, after breakfast at Shyala, we will start your journey to Samagaun. On the way, you will see  Manaslu and Himal Chuli mountains. A couple of hours further led us to Samagaun Village, with a superb view of Mount Manaslu. Samagaun is the Biggest village in this region. The people, like their ancestors, descended from Tibet as early as 300 years ago, the culture and their living style are very much like they predecessor. The people of this area still trade with Tibet, taking 2 or 3 days a week. The border to Tibet is a day’s walk for the locals. It is one of the old salt trade routes via Nepal to Tibet. Sama Gaun to Samdu 3780m Approx 5:30 walking. The trek climbs slowly towards Samdu and beyond. Actually, the walk to Samdu is not too far and can be done within 3/4 hours, but the increase in altitude and the dry air make the walk a little slower than on previous days. We need to gain the height slowly, taking time and enjoying the view around as we come to the village of Samdu. From the campsite, we cross a high plateau and skirt around the ridge of lateral moraine heading towards Karmo Kharka and Kermo Mamam. As the trek advances near Samdu village, we then climb a terraced hillside on the opposite bank of Budhi Gandaki, reaching one of the most remote permanent settlements in Nepal at Samdu. The trek climbs slowly towards Samdu and beyond. Actually, the walk to Samdu is not too far and can be done within 3/4 hours, but the increase in altitude and the dry air make the walk a little slower than on previous days. From Samdu the trek leads to more barren areas, walk begins on the wild mountain path crossing the Gyala Khola, then ascending to the ridge where there is a ruins of village known as a Larkye Bazaar. Presumably this village once thrived on trade with Tibet over the nearby Gya-La, a trade which at present has diminished. Our walk nearing the larkye Glacier reaching Duwang, where there is a lodge, built to serve travelers crossing the Larkye-La which lays now just a head. The walk from Larkye Phedi towards the top of Larkye-La at 5,135m is a gradual, winding climb. We make an early morning start to prepare for the crossing of the highest pass on this trek, a short climb above the lodge; we reach the ablation valley on the north side of Larkye glacier with magnificent views of Cho Danda and Larkye peak. Finally, we reached the moraines of the glacier and crossed and got to the pass. From Pass, outstanding views of Himlung, Cheo Himal, Kang Guru, and Annapurna II can be seen. After a wonderful moment on the highest spot, a long descent follows over snow and scree to reach the valley trail to Larcia. A further hour on a moraine ridge path leads to Tambuche at 3,900m, and with a short distance walk from here to camp at Bhimthang, a Lovely Place on a broad and level valley with some mani walls and a deserted house. We will surely arrive tired in camp after a long, hard, satisfying day.

After a long day’s walk to Bhimthang, the walk from here to Dharapani will be pleasant through the forest of pines, rhododendron, and summer pasture with occasional views of the nearby snow peaks. From our camp, we had gone to follow Burdin Khola to the area of the base camp of the side of Manaslu. From a ridge, we have excellent views of Manaslu to the southeast and Annapurna II to the southwest. Beyond a bridge over the headwaters of the Dudh Khola, we descend and follow a trail through a narrow valley and into a serene forest, and get to the Tilje. This day, you should have breakfast early in the morning, and the drive starts in Dharapani, and then take a bus or jeep to drive back to Beshisahar. The walking path is very easy and shady under the forest. After arriving in Dharapani, we have to wait till the public bus arrives, then we take the bus to go to the Beshishar. Overnight at Kathmandu Hotel with a BB plan.
