Manaslu Region Treks in Nepal
Most trekkers in Nepal head to Everest or Annapurna. And those are great treks. But they are also crowded. You share the trail with hundreds of people. The teahouses fill up fast, and the overall experience can feel rushed.
The Manaslu Region Trek is different. Since it requires a restricted permit, which will sort out most travellers, the Manaslu region is for someone who likes to explore the culture and a slow-paced trek. It is a proper adventure trek in a restricted area that most travellers never reach.
Our Manaslu Region Trek Packages
We offer two Trekking routes in the Manaslu region. Here is what makes each one different and how to decide which one is right for you.
Manaslu Circuit Trek 14 Days, from USD 1,352
The Manaslu Circuit Trek is the classic route. You loop around the entire Manaslu massif by trekking from Machhakhola to ending the trek at Dharapani.
The trail follows the Budhi Gandaki River north. You pass through terraced farmland, dense subtropical forest, and remote villages where you can find Tibetan Buddhist cultural life. By the time you reach Samagaun at 3,520m, you are in a valley with peaks rising on every side.
Day 11 is the hardest and the best. You cross the Larkya La Pass. You start before sunrise, headtorch on, trail cold and firm underfoot. By the time you reach the top, the sun is up, and the view covers Manaslu, Himlung Himal, Cheo Himal, and Annapurna II. It is the kind of moment you do not forget.

Manaslu Trek 18 Days, from USD 1,364
The 18 Days Manaslu Tsum Valley Trek gives you more time in the region. You spend 18 days on the trail, which means a slower pace, better acclimatization, and more time in the villages.
This route takes you deeper into the Manaslu Conservation Area. You visit Pungyen Gompa above Samagaun. You have more time at Samdo before the pass crossing, which makes the altitude much easier to handle.
The extra days actually make this trek safer than the 14-day Manaslu trek.
Your body has more time to adjust to each elevation gain. Our guides use that time to monitor your condition and pace the trek accordingly.

Season choice matters more in the Manaslu region than in most parts of Nepal. The area is remote, and the trail infrastructure is thinner than the main trekking routes.
September and October are the sweet adventure trekking season of Nepal. The monsoon has just ended. The sky is clear, and the views of Manaslu are at their best all year.
Spring is also great. The rhododendron forests below 3,000m are in full bloom in April. The colour of the forests against the white peaks is something you will not see anywhere else.
If you can choose your dates, aim for October or late March to mid-April. These are the windows when conditions align perfectly.
Why Trek the Manaslu Region with Nepal Holiday Trip?
We are a Kathmandu-based trekking company registered with the Nepal Tourism Board. We have been running guided treks in the Himalayas since 2010.
Our Manaslu guides are not hired from a general team; they specialize in it. They are local. Most of them grew up near the Manaslu region and have been walking this trail since they were teenagers. They know every teahouse owner by name. They know which sections of the Larkya La are icy in spring and where the wind picks up in the autumn season. That local knowledge keeps you safe and makes the trek better.

Frequently Asked Questions About Manaslu Region Treks
What is the best time to do a Manaslu region trek?
Spring & Autumn month are favorable for trekking in the Manaslu region. In the spring months ( September, October, November), after the rains stop, the sky gets clear, and you can see the mountains well. Spring also works nicely. March, April, May. The forests look beautiful in spring. If someone asks us which month is the best, we usually say October. Or late March also. Those two are the most popular for a reason.
Can I trek in the Manaslu region alone?
No. The government has set a rule for no solo trekking. A guide has to be with you the whole time. But if you are alone, that is okay. We can still make it work. Some people come alone, and we put them in a small group. Some people prefer a private guide just for them. Either way, we sort it out for you.
What is included in your Manaslu trek packages?
The permits are included. The guide and porter are also included. You sleep in teahouses, and food is covered: three meals every day on the trail. The jeep or transport to the trail start and back, that is included too. What you pay yourself: your flight to Nepal, your insurance, tips for the team, and anything personal you buy on the way.
How fit do I need to be for a Manaslu region trek?
You have to be reasonably fit. Not like an athlete, but not unfit either. Every day you walk maybe 5 to 7 hours. Some parts of the trail go up steeply. The Larkya La Pass day is the tough hiking day. That day is long, and the oxygen level is very low and the air pressure. You do not need to know climbing, but if you have never done a multi-day trek before, we recommend you take 18 days trek instead of a 14-day trek.
Do I need a special permit for the Manaslu region?
Yes, you need permits here. This area is government-restricted. Three permits are required:
- Manaslu Special Trekking Permit: USD 100 per week in peak season
- Manaslu Conservation Area Permit: NPR 3,000
- Annapurna Conservation Area Permit: NPR 3,000 (only if you exit via Dharapani)
