My first cable car experience
Manakamana temple on the way to pokhara wasn’t even on my radar beforehand, cable car up through the hills then this old temple at the top with people offering roosters, very different vibe. muktinath is where it got hard, altitude headache from jomsom that didn’t really let up till we were back down. lumbini a few days later was the total opposite, just sat in the garden doing nothing for a while. chitwan at the end was a fun way to close it out, saw a rhino way closer than i expected.

Came to accompany wife but loved the tour myself as well
my wife is the buddhist in the family, i mostly came along for the trip. ended up getting more out of it than expected. the maya devi temple and ashoka pillar were genuinely interesting even from a pure history angle, and the eternal flame area was quieter than i thought it would be with the crowds. i’ll be honest, the lumbini to pokhara drive tested my patience, it’s long and the road quality comes and goes, bring a neck pillow. pokhara made up for it, peace pagoda hike in the morning and good coffee by the lake after. well organized overall, nothing felt rushed, which for a pilgrimage type trip is probably the point.

Glad I did this pilgrimage tour with my grandma
My grandmother practiced buddhism most of her later life and i did this trip partly in her memory. lit a butter lamp for her at one of the monasteries in lumbini’s monastic zone and had a proper cry, in the best way. the international monasteries there are fascinating, each built in its own country’s style, we cycled between them which was fun until my rented bike’s chain came off twice. small things. the hotel in lumbini was simpler than the kathmandu one, fine but don’t expect luxury there. swayambhunath at the start and the calm pokhara days after balanced it all out nicely. our guide was respectful about the spiritual side without over-explaining everything, which i really appreciated.

Lumbini made me religious and I want more stories
I’m not even particularly religious but standing in the sacred garden at lumbini did something to me. monks from like six different countries all praying in their own way, smell of incense everywhere, and it’s quiet in a way that’s hard to explain. the drive from kathmandu down to bhairahawa is long and honestly pretty rough in sections, prepare for that. but boudhanath at dusk on day 2, walking clockwise with the pilgrims while the butter lamps got lit, that set the tone for the whole week. pokhara after was the exhale. worth it.

Best short tour for calming experience
Came in knowing almost nothing about nepal beyond everest and left completely charmed. kathmandu overwhelmed me at first, in a good way, so much happening on every street. the jungle safari in chitwan was something i never imagined doing in a country famous for mountains, we spotted a rhino with a baby which the guide said was lucky. pokhara felt like a different country entirely, calm lake, mountain views, good cafes. the drives between places are long, i won’t pretend otherwise, but the scenery out the window kept it interesting. already telling friends back home to put nepal on their list.

We mother daughter had a wonderful time on tour
honestly booked this as a see the main spots kind of trip and it delivered on that, but the part i didn’t see coming was nagarkot. after all the driving between kathmandu, chitwan and pokhara, waking up to that mountain panorama on the last morning felt like the trip saving its best card for the end. chitwan safari was great too, elephants bathing in the river, crocodiles, the whole thing. pokhara lakeside in the evening had a really relaxed energy, could have used one more day there if i’m being picky. solid week overall.

Three cities, one week, worked out perfectly
Did this tour with my mum who’s in her sixties and it was the right pace for both of us. Kathmandu day was busy but Boudhanath and the durbar square made it worth the crowds. Chitwan was her favorite by far, she talked about the rhino sighting for the rest of the trip and probably still does. pokhara gave us the slow days we needed, lakeside walks and just sitting with good food. Nagarkot on the second to last night was a smart addition, woke up to himalayan views without any trekking involved. easy trip to recommend for mixed ages.

Chitwan ended up beating Pokhara for us
Everyone told us Pokhara would be the highlight of the honeymoon and it was lovely, but for us chitwan stole it. something about being out in the jungle with my wife, both of us completely out of our element, laughing at ourselves in the canoe. we saw crocodiles sunbathing and more birds than i could count. The Kathmandu sightseeing at the start gave the trip a nice cultural opening too, pashupatinath was intense in the best way. good balance of romance and actual adventure, we didn’t want a honeymoon of just sitting by a pool and this was exactly not that.

Rhinos, temples and zero planning stress
My husband and i are terrible at planning trips so having everything arranged was honestly the best wedding gift we gave ourselves. Kathmandu Heritage day was more interesting than i expected, Boudhanath especially, we just sat with a coffee watching people do their rounds of the stupa. Pokhara was the romantic bit, lakeside dinners and that Sarangkot sunrise. then chitwan flipped the whole mood, elephants, canoe ride, a rhino casually crossing near our jeep like it was nothing. loved that the trip wasn’t just one thing the whole time. only note, the drive to Pokhara is long, break up the snacks accordingly.

Best start to married life we could’ve asked for
Booked this for our honeymoon and my wife still brings up the Sarangkot morning almost weekly. we’re not really “wake up at 5am” people but they convinced us and yeah, watching the mountains light up together was one of those moments you don’t forget. chitwan was the surprise favorite though, saw rhinos from the safari jeep and my wife nearly cried, she’d wanted to see one her whole life. hotel picks were solid everywhere, felt looked after without it being over the top. eight days went too fast honestly.
