Adding Tsum Valley was a good suggestion
2025 March 21
Almost booked the shorter manaslu circuit only but a friend who’d done both talked me into adding tsum valley, worth listening to him. the extra week through lokpa, chumling, and up to mu gompa gave the trip a completely different first half, quieter and more remote than the manaslu side alone would’ve been. Larkye Pass near the end was still the highlight physically, but by that point i’d already gotten so much more out of the trip than the shorter version would’ve given me.

Twenty days and the villages kept getting more remote
Chumling and chhekampar early on already felt far from anything, then nile and the day trip up to mu gompa took that even further, no real connectivity for days at that point which i actually appreciated. crossing back over to the manaslu side after tsum valley felt like starting a second trek entirely, namrung and samagaun had a totally different rhythm and scale to them. larkye pass at 5135m was hard, cold wind the whole crossing, but bhimtang on the other side was a welcome drop back into greener terrain.

Mu Gompa was worth the extra out and back day
Manaslu Tsum Valley trek combines two very different feeling routes and it works well. tsum valley in the first half was slower paced, quieter villages, mu gompa at 3700m felt properly remote, monks there barely see outsiders compared to the busier trekking regions. larkye pass toward the end was the physical test of the trip, 5135m and a long day either side of it. samagaun rest day in between gave us time to actually explore the glacier rather than just passing through.

Kumari house was the one thing I didn’t expect to think about after
Did the kathmandu day tour before flying home from a longer trip elsewhere in nepal. Kathmandu Durbar Square in the morning had this old kumari house with the carved wooden balconies, guide explained the whole living goddess tradition and i’ve been reading about it since getting home honestly. Pashupatinath later was intense, a lot to take in within a short visit. swayambhunath at the end for sunset was a good close, city laid out below with the stupa’s eyes watching over all of it.

Fit four ancient cities into one day somehow
Wasn’t sure a single day kathmandu tour could cover much but they packed in swayambhunath, pashupatinath, boudhanath and patan durbar square without it feeling rushed. climbing the steps up to swayambhunath early on with the monkeys everywhere was a fun start. Pashupatinath was heavier, watching cremations from across the river put things in perspective fast. Boudhanath in the afternoon was calmer, walked the stupa clockwise with the pilgrims for a while.

Did EBC two weeks ago, came back to Kathmandu with different friends this time
Finished the everest base camp trek about two weeks before this, flew back to kathmandu, and ended up joining a friend’s group who were just arriving and hadn’t seen any of the city yet. figured i’d tag along for the day tour even though i’d technically already passed through kathmandu twice by then, mostly just hotel to airport stuff, never actually stopped to look at anything. glad i did. boudhanath stupa was somewhere i’d flown right past without a second thought on the way to lukla, seeing it properly this time, walking around it with the group while they took it all in for the first time, hit different. pashupatinath too, my legs were still sore from the trek but nothing like the mental space that place puts you in. funny doing the “tourist” day after weeks of trekking boots and dal bhat, but honestly grounded the whole trip in a way the mountains hadn’t.

Convincing My Parents Was Hard But Worth It
brought my parents along on the nepal luxury tour since they’d always assumed nepal meant tents and cold showers, this trip changed their mind fast. kathmandu’s five star hotel impressed my dad more than the sightseeing did if i’m honest. pokhara was the highlight for my mum, that annapurna view from the hotel room over morning tea. chitwan jungle activity was comfortable enough that even my dad, not an outdoors person at all, enjoyed the whole day.

Wanted Nepal without giving up comfort and did it
My wife wasn’t keen on trekking but still wanted to see nepal properly, this tour solved that for us. pokhara hotel view of the annapurna range over breakfast was better than half the paid viewpoints i’ve been to elsewhere in the world. chitwan’s jungle safari let us see wildlife without any of the usual camping discomfort, drivers and guides handled everything smoothly. eight days, well paced, nothing felt rushed between the flights and drives.

Five star everything, not a single rough night the whole week
Booked the luxury tour for our anniversary and it delivered exactly what we wanted, none of the roughing it that regular nepal trips seem to involve. kathmandu hotel was excellent, pokhara room had a direct annapurna view from the balcony which we didn’t even ask for specifically. chitwan jungle activity was a nice contrast day, still comfortable lodging even out there. thamel on the last evening was a fun chaotic close to an otherwise very relaxed week.

Gorakshep twice in one trip, once for EBC and once for Lobuche Peak
Liked how this itinerary uses gorakshep as a base for both the ebc walk and the kala patthar hike before heading toward the actual peak, felt efficient rather than repetitive. lobuche high camp the night before summit was the coldest sleep of my life, barely rested before the long push up. reaching 6119m after seeing everest close up days earlier from Kala Patthar tied the whole trip together in a way i didn’t expect going in.
